DCC Lost City Session 1&2

Setting: The setting takes place in an area inspired by the great plains/American southwest. As such, the party were caught in an arroyo and washed out before they found the lost city. The pyramid from the module is a giant tumulus/barrow.

The Funnel: This one is a bit fuzzy because it has been a few months, but there were two of us - myself as the GM, and a good friend. We played four characters through the adventure in the DCC core book. Well we didn't finish it and ran away before we got anything good, but we had some neat treasure. The survivors were Locke the Elf and Tumnas the thief.

Session 1: Characters: We have Locke the Elf, Tumnus the Thief, Plover the armorer, Bruster the corn farmer, Swift the cheese maker, Rusty the Halfling trader, and a cow.

The party left the cow outside the barrow, though not on purpose. Soon after, Bruster the farmer fell to his death in a trap in the entrance area. He couldn't stick the landing. The party ended up going down a ladder and encountered some fire beetles who provided some warmth and light but didn't pay anymind to the party. Plover fed them and now the party had a mobile torch. Soon after, the group encountered a few Cynidicians of the brotherhood of Gorm, who shared some gila monster steak and water with the group. Since several of the party members were Lawful they were able to communicate. Rusty joined the brotherhood while the rest committed to exploring. The party knows of Zargon and a few of the troubles.

Session Two: Characters: Plover the Priest, Tumnus the Thief, Locke the Elf. The party is joined by Travis Scott the Weaver, Michael the Indentured Servant, Donald Glover the Halfling glovemaker, and Will Smith the Blacksmith.

The party encountered a band of twelve prairiegoblins (think humanoid prairiedogs with mange), who had managed to tunnel into the barrow. After a brief scuffle, four of the goblins were dead, while Michael the Indentured Servant was shanked by a goblin and Travis the Weaver was thwacked in the head by an errant chain being swung by Michael. The goblins ran away because Donald Glover the Halfling scared them off, also several died. Following the goblins, the group encountered a room of stirges, which they fed a fire beetle to and attempted to feed a dead goblin to; however, the stirges got angry over the dead body. The party didn't bother the stirges anymore. In the northern part of the barrow, the party came upon a room of faeries having a tea party. Turns out the goblins that ran away got turned into lightning bugs. The faeries gave the group some old fireworks.

Session 3: Characters: Will Smith the Thief, Donald Glover the Halfling, Boy the Orphan, and Keanu the Parsnip Farmer. Locke, Plover, and Tumnas decided to mosey on somewhere else, while two new lost souls were found - an orphan and a farmer. They were being "taken care of" by the faeries the party ran into in session two.

The party went to find out where this path from the faeries led, and found a room coated in a green slime. To see their options, the orphan threw his rag doll into the slime. Of course it dissolved. Looking for a way to catch it on fire, of which the party had no ways, they decided to go and ask the Brotherhood of Gorm for a light.

On the way back to the Brotherhood, in the room where the goblin fight happened, the party ran into a couple giant ferrets feasting on the bodies of the dead. To recall, there was a fight here last session! The ferrets, not really knowing what to do, reacted by puffing up, while the party did the same, replete with lots of noise. The ferrets reacted with fear and took the corpses they were munching on and skedaddled off to deeper in the room. The party further ran into a small patrol of Brotherhood members, and received their light.

Really wanting to catch this green slime on fire, the party doubled back. While doing so, the party ran into a group of four masked men who were playing at being wolves. These men were attempting to get into the room of the faeries. The orphan, seeing that these were men, attempted a good humor approach and moved to the men. This was the wrong move, as these wolves were rabid and one of the men bit and pummeled the poor wretch, killing him. A fight was on, one in which the party attempted to start their fireworks to scare the men off. Unfortunately, the fireworks they did try were all duds! The party, through much stabbings and bitings, killed the men.

The faeries in the room, hearing the commotion, came out and offered the group healing. This healing ended up knocking out Will Smith and gave Donald Glover a bad case of the shivers. The party, attempting to wake up Will Smith, ended up using a cowbell to try and wake him up, which alerted some giant cave crickets, so the party changed tactics and instead slapped the shit out of him. Will Smith was very cranky for being taken from a pleasant dream in a sunlit meadow.

Feeling they had explored all this level had to offer, and running low on food and water, again, the party ended up heading down a flight of stairs and encountered two members of the Warrior Maidens playing cards. Will Smith and Donald Glover crept forward, and Donald Glover began to speak to the Maidens. Will Smith remained hidden, but while attempting to translate the language (Law) the rest of the party was spotted.
